BACKGROUND
HISTORY: wiki

PERSONALITY: Answer three of the following questions. Limit this section to 500-1,000 words in total, or 150-300 words per question.

  • What impression does your character give when meeting someone for the first time? How does the first impression differ from your character’s true nature?
  • Lestat's first impression is a greatly crafted thing that he's had a lot of practice tailoring. The man writes books in the first person about his life, so, y'know. In one such book he describes himself as "morally complex, spiritually tough, and aesthetically relevant; a being of blazing insight and impact, a guy with things to say to you." So he's modest, too!

At first impression, it is difficult to not be swept up by Lestat; he is a loud, bold and defiant young man who makes it his mission to catch every eye in the room and greedily keep their attention, whether through dress or attitude. He knows damn well how attractive he is, and he uses it to his advantage; he loves to flirt and be complimented and have people look at him with wonder at how such a fascinating creature can exist.

Being an aristocrat, he has a certain flair for the extravagant which can be seen through his love of material possessions and in his idolisation of physical beauty, but also in his sense of entitlement which can come off a little conceited. He is very prideful and doesn't like to be told what to do, or that he's wrong.

Despite Lestat being wildly charismatic, underneath all his bluster he is a very sensitive and emotional thing, as most vampires are. He is enthusiastic and energetic and uses his unflappable nature to seem somewhat bulletproof (he is literally bulletproof, but you know what I mean), but he's incredibly lonely and somewhat of a tortured soul, struggling with his fair share of feelings of inadequacy and self-doubt. In one of these moods, Lestat can often let his emotions get the better of him, resulting in his devil-may-care attitude turning more sullen and stubborn, though at his current pull-point he's self-aware enough to know when to reel himself in. Mostly.
  • What are your character’s fears? How do they hinder or challenge your character?
  • Lestat's fears have vastly changed over time, which is to be expected when you're over 200 years old, but the most prevalent of Lestat's fears will always be the idea of being alone.

He was reborn as a vampire and made to watch as his maker flung himself into the fire without teaching him anything. Soon after, Lestat carelessly makes fledglings of his mother and lover in an effort to keep them close, but ultimately the change forces them from him.

Lestat is equally desperate for companionship when he turns Louis, who in all fairness he doesn't know very well at the time of his change; Lestat acts on impulse, charmed and enraptured by the depth of Louis' emotions and the strength of his convictions, and convinces himself that Louis will be a good companion for him. Lestat struggles to be honest with Louis, however, and ends up clinging to him so possessively that he starts to push him away. He even goes as far as to make a companion for Louis, the child-vampire Claudia, when Louis threatens to leave him... It doesn't end well for him.

Though he still suffers with his fears of loneliness, after reading an entire novel where your fledgling lover drags you for being closed off while insinuating that if you'd just been more open and honest then things would have been how you always dreamed... Lestat learns some valuable lessons. In retaliation, he publishes a couple novels of his own being horrifyingly real about his whole everything, which serves as a testament that he's ready to be honest and unapologetic about who he really is.

The fear of being left alone will probably never leave him, but he has people around him to help soothe his anxieties.
  • What are your character’s ambitions/goals? Why are they important to your character?
  • Lestat is as hedonistic as they come; many of his ambitions are self-serving, but his heart is almost always in the right-ish place, even if it doesn't seem that way at the time.

When he makes Claudia he's accused of only turning her to force Louis to stay with him, and doesn't bother to argue until he releases his Honesty Book and reveals that while he did think it would make Louis stay, he also loved Claudia hopelessly and wanted to save her from certain death so that they could be a family. Aww. Lestat also single-handedly disbands the Coven/Cult of Les Innocents through sheer force of will, opening their eyes to how good their lives could be as vampires, but then does very little to help the vampires who have known nothing else all their lives adjust to his perfect world, because in focusing only on saving them from misery he didn't think far ahead enough to think about that.

Lestat also craves philosophical completion, too. He enjoys being a vampire, embracing and even thriving doing the things he must now do to survive, and with a surprisingly good attitude despite the traumatic things he's experienced; but he will often ponder the definitions of good and bad in the context of his own actions and of vampires in general.

In light of all this, it is still true that at his core Lestat wants to be the hero of the tale, star of the show. If he were a sim his aspiration would be "Friend of the World" rather than the world dominance one like you might assume. That's why he writes books with himself as the main character, why he covets and keeps so many friends, and why he seems to be constantly searching for his raison d'ĂŞtre. He wants to know if he is doomed to be an evil creature, or if there is goodness in him despite it all. He wants to protect the people he cares for and feel as though he deserves their love in return.

INVENTORY: He has a Sony Walkman cassette player in his pocket, with a pair of headphones attached. It's very compact and small, runs on batteries, and only has one tape: Mötley Crüe's Shout at the Devil album.

    POWERS
    SKILLS/ABILITIES:
â–  Vampire: Lestat is a vampire and quite a powerful one at that.
â–ˇ Telepathy & Mesmerism, etc - Lestat can read the mind of most humans and other supernatural creatures too, unless they are consciously blocking him out with psychic defences. He can use this ability to communicate non-verbally and also to influence humans into doing what he wants them to - putting them in a vampire thrall - though he rarely feels the need to do this.
â–ˇ Immortality - Lestat will never die, never age and will never look anything unlike he does now; if his hair is cut or his nails broken, these seem to "reset" when he rises from sleep.
â–ˇ Rapid Healing - If Lestat is scratched/bitten/wounded he heals remarkably fast without scarring or bruising. If Lestat is lethally wounded - his throat cut, any body parts severed - as long as he has a supply of living blood he can heal/reattach eventually. Lestat can also use his vampiric blood to heal human injuries as long as the blood can make contact; he can't heal brain damage or broken bones but he can cover his bite marks and prevent bleed outs.
â–ˇ Fledglings - Lestat can bring humans into the Dark Gift with him and turn them into vampires by draining the victim of blood and sharing his own blood with them at the moment before death. Lestat has a lot of hang-ups about not doing this without express permission from the person in question and usually only does it to people he cares deeply for. Obviously this would only be done with permission from players and mods if it did ever come up.
â–ˇ Physical Abilities - Lestat is much faster, stronger and quieter than a regular human man; he can climb walls and ceilings and jump from them without harm; he can conceal his footsteps in order to go undetected; he can break concrete and iron and crush a human skull with very little effort, and he can move his limbs so fast that to the human eye it often goes unseen.
â–  Elder Blood: From his pull-point he has recently shared blood with the Queen of the Damned, Akasha, who was one of the first vampires with incredibly strong powers. Through sharing her blood, Lestat has taken on some of her ability.
â–ˇ Lestat can fly with pure intention of will. All he has to do is think about flying and he can lift into the air. He often utilizes this skill to take him across the globe to different countries.
â–ˇ Lestat can allow his 'soul' to leave his body and float above it as though a spirit.
â–ˇ Lestat's skin is closer to marble than the typical pale skin of a vampire. He doesn't have as much texture to his skin, and he is painfully cold to the touch; difficult to do so for extended periods of time for mortals.
â–ˇ All his typical vampire powers are heightened; he can hear at greater distances and in greater detail, he can close his own mind to much stronger influences and is capable of pyrokinesis and telekinesis.
â–  Theatrical: From his time in theatres and on stage, Lestat has nurtured his natural performative nature and has excellent skills as an actor, dancer and a musician; he can confidently play piano and the violin, and he has a lovely singing voice.
â–  Vitality: Even before being turned Lestat had considerable strength and will to live; he survived childhood unlike four of his siblings and despite being a somewhat underfed noble in rural frozen France, he killed a pack of wolves with the help of his dogs and endured almost dying in the process, which was quite the feat. As a vampire he can withstand having all of his blood drained, and also survives being the victim of attempted arson which is usually lethal for vampires. You just can't kill the guy! He's like a cockroach... a sexy, bloodsucking cockroach.

NERFING: (Lestat is an incredibly strong vampire. I've nerfed these to 20% logically, but if he needs to be nerfed a little more or if he needs any specific abilities to not be possible anymore, I'm totally fine with that!)
â–  At 20% of his power Lestat will no longer have the increased abilities he had through taking in Elder Blood - so no increased might or random house fires, or telekinesis. The one power I'd like him to keep because I think it's very funny is the ability to fly, but I'd like it nerfed to the point where he can only float a few inches off the ground, a foot at most.
â–  He will still be very strong compared to a human. He'll be able to break things with his hands, but it will take considerable exertion rather than him doing it effortlessly. He will still be able to read minds (with ooc permission) but it will be harder for him to organise the information he sees/hears and he will have to have some kind of connection (eye contact, physical touch) so he won't be able to do it discreetly. He won't be able to "dig" for information like he once could, either; he'll only be able to see recent thoughts.
â–  He won't have the same level of inhuman perception and hearing as before. He'll be nerfed to the sensory capabilities of a hunting dog; able to hear sounds first/from a distance, able to sense the presence of other people close by, and his sense of smell will remain stronger than a human's.
â–  He will continue to be able to heal using his own blood and his body will heal faster than a human's, but he must have a constant supply of blood to do it with any speed. Without blood a small scratch will heal at the same speed as a more lethal wound would have before the nerf.
â–  He will struggle more to resist the pull of the death sleep, as detailed in Weaknesses below.

    WEAKNESSES:
â–  Blood Drinking - Vampirism is also one of Lestat's greatest weaknesses, as despite the many abilities it gives him, he has a great dependency on the need to drink human blood to survive. This also leaves him susceptible to being poisoned or drugged through said blood (though not enough to kill him, it's not.. fun)
â–  Burning - Fire and sunlight are the only known way to kill vampires aside from total atomic obliteration. If thrown into the sun they burn as if on fire, blistering and finally turning to ash.
â–  Nocturnal - Lestat feels an uncontrollable urge to sleep with the rising of the sun. All vampires experience this death sleep; they fall completely comatose and cannot be woken. If an attempt is made to wake them or attack them while they are vulnerable, their bodies react without their control and viciously attack whoever might be trying to rouse them. Lestat canonly sleeps as little as possible, waking early and resisting the pull of the death sleep for as long as he can.
â–  Anti-hero - Lestat is a victim of temptation at every turn, particularly from powerful people or even his own ideals, which often leads him to some terrible decisions. Being emotive and impulsive, Lestat can be a danger to himself and those around him when he gets an idea in his head, and he is very stubborn to changing his mind. He also loves to break rules and is a general terror, and he enjoys doing it.
